The book’s genre is historical fiction, and it was very interesting to read about Europe in the 1600s, immigrants going into the “New World", a newly-built New York and the Salem witch trials. * * * A prequel to the Practical Magic series, this book was exactly what I needed as it helped me take an hour (or a few hours in some days 😊) off the crazy world we live in right now and be transformed back 350 years when everything seems to be just starting, yet some things are surprisingly similar to the present. And a witch’s heart is not easily controlled, even by herself. However, Maria is a witch by blood, not by choice, who can speak with animals, has the gift of sight and can control weather. Seeing so many women suffer from love, Maria decides to never fall in love. Hannah prepares potions and gives out spells to make abusing husbands leave, bring in love to those who seek it and ease heartbreak pain.
